A THOUSAND PIECES

Just a quick one before bed, I promise.

After reading a social media post about the greatest recorded performances of Mahler symphonies, I decided to check out a recording of the composer’s 5th Symphony conducted by Václav Neumann with the Gewandhaus Leipzig — one I had previously overlooked.

I’m happy to report it was amazing. But then Spotify randomly played a track from a Naxos recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, and suddenly my heart shattered into a thousand pieces. Memories of this heavenly music — and the deep catharsis it brought to my locked-down soul during the first COVID spring and summer — came flooding back. I remembered just how obsessed I had been with it.

Anyway, since I’ve already written about that for Digital Renegade, I won’t repeat myself.
